Twice a year — in spring and fall — Diakonia Christian Church mobilizes hundreds of volunteers for a city-wide day of hands-on community service. This is one of our most beloved outreach events and a powerful way to demonstrate the love of Christ to our neighbors.
Service teams will be deployed to partner sites across Springfield, including: the Central Illinois Food Bank (sorting and packing), Springfield Parks Department (cleanup and beautification), Lincoln Elementary School (painting and landscaping), Springfield Rescue Mission (meal prep and serving), and local nursing homes (fellowship visits).
The day begins at 8:00 AM in the church parking lot with a brief devotional, prayer, and team assignments. Lunch is provided at each service site. We wrap up by 2:00 PM with a closing celebration at the church. This is a wonderful opportunity for families — children ages 5 and up are welcome to participate with a parent.
Please wear comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, and bring work gloves if you have them. Supplies and tools will be provided at each site.
