What Our Members Say
When our family moved to Springfield three years ago, we were looking for a church that genuinely cared about people — not just on Sundays, but throughout the week. From the very first visit, Diakonia felt like home. The warmth and authenticity of this congregation is unlike anything we've experienced. Our children love the kids' program, and my wife and I have grown more in our faith in the past three years than in the previous ten. We are grateful beyond words.
I started attending Diakonia during one of the darkest periods of my life. I had lost my mother, my marriage was falling apart, and I was questioning everything I believed. The pastors and the people of this church walked with me through that valley with patience, prayer, and genuine compassion. I can honestly say that God used this church to save my life. Today, I serve on the outreach team and I get to give back the same love that was shown to me.
As a college student, I wasn't sure I'd find a church where I felt I belonged. But from day one, the youth and young adult community at Diakonia welcomed me with open arms. My husband and I have been members of Diakonia for over twenty years. We raised our children here, and now our grandchildren attend Diakonia Kids. Arrival & Parking
We have a spacious free parking lot with designated visitor spots near the main entrance. When you arrive, look for our hospitality team in gold lanyards — they'll be at the doors ready to greet you, offer you a bulletin, and show you around the building.
Welcome Center
Stop by the Welcome Center in the main lobby to pick up a first-time visitor packet, which includes an overview of our church, a map of the building, information about small groups and ministries, and a complimentary gift. Our welcome team can answer any questions and help you find childcare.
Children's Check-In
If you have children ages birth through 5th grade, you can check them in at the children's ministry desk located near the Welcome Center. Every child receives a name tag, and parents receive a matching security tag for pickup. All volunteers are background-checked. The nursery, preschool, and elementary rooms are clean, safe, and staffed with loving, trained volunteers.
Worship Service
Our services begin with 20–25 minutes of congregational worship through music — a blend of hymns and contemporary praise led by our worship team. This is followed by a brief time of greeting, announcements, and prayer. The sermon is typically 35–40 minutes and is rooted in expository teaching from the Bible. We take an offering during the service, but guests are never expected to give.

Come as you are! Our congregation dresses in everything from jeans and sneakers to suits and ties. There is no dress code at Diakonia — we care far more about your presence than your outfit. We want you to feel comfortable and at home.

Easter Preparations Underway
Our team is preparing for a glorious Easter celebration! Volunteer sign-ups are now open for greeters, parking attendants, children's ministry helpers, and the Easter breakfast team. Don't miss the Easter choir rehearsal this Saturday at 10 AM in the sanctuary. This year's Easter service will feature a brass ensemble, a children's processional, and the baptism of twelve new believers.
Meet Our New Youth Intern: Caleb Reyes
We are thrilled to welcome Caleb Reyes to the Diakonia team as our new Youth Ministry Intern! Caleb is a senior at Lincoln Christian University majoring in Youth Ministry. He will be assisting Pastor James with Wednesday night youth group, retreat planning, and student discipleship. Caleb brings a contagious enthusiasm for the Gospel and a heart for the next generation. Welcome, Caleb!
VBS Registration Now Open
Registration is now open for our 2026 Vacation Bible School: "God's Great Expedition!" Running June 8–12 from 9 AM – 12 PM, VBS is free and open to children ages 4 through 5th grade. Last year we had over 220 children attend, and this year we're praying for even more. We also need 80+ volunteers — teens and adults — to make this week a success. Sign up at the Welcome Center or online.
Grace Pantry Serves Record Number
In February, our Grace Pantry served a record 145 families — the highest monthly count in the pantry's twelve-year history. As food insecurity continues to rise in our community, the need grows greater. We are grateful for every volunteer and donor who makes this ministry possible. To get involved, contact Maria Gonzalez at the church office or drop by the pantry on Saturday mornings.
Building Fund Update: 78% to Goal
We are excited to report that our Building Fund has reached 78% of its $1.2 million goal! These funds will support the renovation of our Fellowship Hall, the addition of four new classrooms for our growing children's ministry, and critical HVAC upgrades throughout the building. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so faithfully. We trust God to bring this project to completion in His perfect timing.
Small Group Sign-Ups for Spring
Spring small groups launch the week of March 9! This semester we are offering 18 groups meeting throughout Springfield — including groups for young adults, couples, women, men, and mixed-age studies. Topics range from the book of Philippians to practical Christian parenting to understanding the Old Testament prophets. Visit the small groups table in the lobby or contact Pastor Rebecca to find the right group for you.

Rooted in Him
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." — Colossians 2:6–7 (NIV)
A tree's strength is not measured by the height of its branches but by the depth of its roots. In the same way, our spiritual vitality depends not on how impressive our outward lives appear but on how deeply we are rooted in Christ. Paul's exhortation to the Colossians is a call to continual growth — not growth that moves us away from the foundation, but growth that drives us deeper into it. Today, ask yourself: Am I growing deeper in my knowledge of Christ? Am I building my life on the solid rock of His Word? Am I overflowing with gratitude for what He has done? Let us be people whose roots run deep into the rich soil of God's grace, so that when the storms come — and they will come — we stand firm, unshaken, and full of praise.
Prayer: Lord, help me today to grow deeper in my relationship with You. Strengthen my roots in Your Word and Your love, that I may stand firm in every circumstance and overflow with thankfulness for Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, amen.
